True Christianity is about having the spirit of Jesus Christ dwelling within you

by Jim Miller

True Christianity is about having the spirit of Jesus Christ dwelling within you, having his mind and outlook within you. What is the spirit of Christ? It is that set of attitudes, values and outlooks held by Jesus Christ. What are the attitudes, values and outlooks held by Jesus? We find them in his teachings and conduct and in the epistles of the New Testament (i.e. those letters written by his apostles). Jesus taught love of God, love of neighbor, humility, meekness, peacefulness, forgiveness, kindness, goodness, virtue, honesty, justice, moral purity, moral uprightness, self-denial, compassion for the needy, service. The spirit of Christ is the spirit of God. Jesus was God. To have the spirit of Jesus within us is to have the mind of God dwelling within us. It is to see right and wrong properly, as God sees it --- to love the things we should love and hate the things we should hate, to have the right biases and prejudices, to love good and hate evil.

By what means does the spirit of Christ come to dwell within a person? How does it get there? It comes to be there by a person making, at some point in his life, a decision to turn away from sin and the ways of this world and embrace Jesus Christ and his teachings. It involves turning away from sin and following the way of Jesus. More explicitly, it involves a deliberate renunciation of the outlooks, attitudes and values of this world and the pursuit of the ways, outlooks and values taught by Jesus. And much involved in it is a heart hungry for God's truth and his way, a love for his word, and time spent studying his word. It is about loving God and his word, having his word in your heart, and the habit of trying to implement his teachings in your life, honestly and sincerely trying to obey them. It is about taking the teachings of Jesus seriously and trying to obey them. It is about imitating Christ. It is about being a love-servant of God. It involves a sustained pursuit over time of the way of Jesus.

We find much reference to the spirit of Christ that dwells within the true Christian in the epistles. For example:

1 Cor 2:12-16 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. {13} These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. {14} But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. {15} But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one. {16} For "who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

Gal 5:{16} I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. {17} For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. {18} But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. {19} Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, {20} idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, {21} envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. {22} But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, {23} gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. {24} And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. {25} If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Eph 4:17-32 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, {18} having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; {19} who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. {20} But you have not so learned Christ, {21} if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: {22} that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, {23} and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, {24} and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. {25} Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another. {26} "Be angry, and do not sin": do not let the sun go down on your wrath, {27} nor give place to the devil. {28} Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. {29} Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. {30} And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. {31} Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. {32} And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

Jesus told us that we must be born again. We must shed the old nature, tho old outlooks, values, and ways, and put on his nature.

How many true Christians does one find, Christians controlled by the spirit of Christ within them? How many people really live by the teachings of Jesus? Not many. You can perhaps go all your life without meeting one. You won't find any among the non-religious masses and they are rare among those who view themselves as Christians.

"I will never leave you or forsake you" may be the most pleasant words in scripture.

Deuteronomy 31:6 - Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Hebrews 13:5 - Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Joshua 1:5 - No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.

Deuteronomy 31:8 - The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

Recognize today that your knowledge, though it may be great, is like a grain of sand on the shore of all knowledge.

1 Corinthians 8:1-3 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know. But the man who loves God is known by God.

A World in a Slumber

1 Corinthians 11: 28-30 For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

I pray - awaken children of the Lord. Recognize and learn our true condition. Ask forgiveness and repent. Ask Jesus to enter your heart and guide each of us through our worldly lives.

Come Holy Spirit. Lead us.

The New York Times Normalizes Marxism

God will always provide a Warning and Path of Escape.

BRISTOL HEAD

By Joe White

1 Corinthians 10:13 - No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

A rattlesnake's rattle is symbolic of the many warnings in nature. But there are also manmade warnings all around us. Weather reports are a good example of warnings we encounter every day. Sometimes we disregard them at great peril.

Story has it that in Lake City, Colorado, a party of snowmobilers ignored the winter storm alert being broadcast over the radio in the café where they were enjoying lunch. An hour later they were high atop Bristol Head, groping along in a whiteout, when suddenly the ground fell out from under them. Days later a rescue team found them at the base of the 1000-foot cliff, their bodies shattered beyond recognition. Because of the blinding snow, they had missed the sign that warned of the dangerous cliff. It is impossible for one to pass that landmark without thinking of the terror that must have been theirs during that brief plummet to earth.

I Corinthians 10:13 contains both comfort and caution. When I read it, I am reminded that the temptations I face are not uncommon. In fact, other Christians face them, too. However, in spite of this comfort, the verse leaves no room for me to act recklessly. Temptation may be common, but it can still lead to a disastrous fall if I yield to it. God in His graciousness provides a "way of escape." But many is the imprisoned boy or the impregnated girl who says, "God must not really care for me. When I was tempted, He didn't provide me with a way of escape. Now look at the mess I'm in." Yet, if they search their memory they will always find that there was a sign, a neon sign that read:

"DANGEROUS CLIFF AHEAD. IN CASE OF HEAVY SNOWFALL, DO NOT PROCEED BEYOND THIS POINT."

Had the snowmobilers heeded the weather report in the first place, they would never have been up on Bristol Head. But because they ignored the report, they got trapped in the whiteout. And because of the whiteout, they missed the important trail sign. And because they missed the important trail sign, they sailed over the cliff. And because they sailed over the cliff, their lives were cut short tragically. Oh, how I wish teenagers would see that temptation and the tragedies that result from it are just like that tragedy on Bristol Head. When we ignore the initial "way of escape" God provides for us, our vision becomes so impaired that it is increasingly difficult to find our way back to safety.

My friends watch for the signs today. And when you see one, don't just read it and roar past it . . . heed it and soar successfully through life.

QUESTIONS:

1. Is it comforting to you to know that "no temptation has overtaken, but such as is common to man?" If so, why is this comforting?

2. Discuss a time when you recognized a "way of escape", yet refused to heed it. What were the results?

LIFELINE:

God will always provide a path of escape. This means we must be so "in tune" with Him that we don't miss the path.

The Election Can’t Save Us From The Fed

Excerpt from the Personal Liberty Digest

Now The Bad News

Moreover, I am wondering if Bernanke and the Federal Reserve Bank presidents have really thought through their actions. What if money isn’t moved out of the Treasury market and into the stock market but is instead moved into euros, gold or anything besides U.S. dollars?

China and Japan are sitting on $1.7 trillion of U.S. Treasury debt. China’s is holding one-fifth of its annual gross domestic product (GDP) in Uncle Sam IOUs. Their leaders might be Communists, but they are not idiots. With the Federal Reserve set to magically create four trillion new dollars you can bet that some of the guys wearing the Chairman Mao suits think it might be time to pull the plug on their Treasury investments.

If this happens, and the Chinese do begin to liquidate Treasuries, it would create a level of financial havoc that would make the Great Depression seem like a bump in the road. I can’t see any way we are going to get out of this unscathed.

I write this before the elections have happened, so I don’t know if the GOP won. But what should scare you is that it doesn’t matter. Congress could include Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy, and as long as we have a Federal Reserve acting as recklessly as the one now controlling our economic fate, we are in a lot of trouble.

INFLATION IS COMING!!!

The following two posts are from Joel Skousen's World Affairs Brief

Bernanke Attempts to Soothe Doubters
Story
Ben S. Bernanke, the Federal Reserve chairman, continued on Saturday to rebut critics who feared the central bank’s latest bid to stimulate the economy could trigger dangerous inflation down the line and antagonize other countries by weakening the dollar.Mr. Bernanke said the Fed’s decision on Wednesday to pump $600 billion into the economy by mid-2011 was a response to the rate of inflation being too low and an attempt to mitigate high unemployment, though he suggested that the first problem was easier to fix than the second. “We’re not in the business of trying to create inflation,” he said at a conference here, speaking on a panel with his predecessor, Alan Greenspan. “Our purpose is to provide some additional stimulus to help the economy recover and to avoid, potentially, additional disinflation.” Not everyone at the conference, organized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and Rutgers University and focused on the central bank’s history, agreed.Mr. Bernanke said that the new approach “will work, or not work, in much the same way that monetary policy — ordinary, more conventional, familiar monetary policy — will work” and that there was “not as much discontinuity as people think.” The statement seemed directed both at inflation-fearing critics and overseas critics — from Germany and Brazil — who say the central bank is effectively weakening the dollar with its approach -Sewell Chan/NY Times

Beware The Fed Tide
Story
This week, desperation became palpable at the Fed. In both the formulaic statement that accompanied its FOMC policy decision and Chairman Ben Bernanke’s unusual (and clumsy) Washington Post op-ed follow up, the guardians of our currency expressed grave disappointment at the slow pace of US economic recovery and emphasized the continued threat of deflation. The Fed is now pledging to defeat this recession using any monetary means necessary. Unfortunately, their embrace threatens to smother our economy.Despite its paternalistic rhetoric, the Fed really has just a few simple goals: allow for the perpetual expansion of the federal deficit, push up stock prices to create the illusion of wealth, and stimulate consumer spending. Per capita, the commitment to quantitative easing comes to almost $2,000 per American. What's more, if this program fails to pull the economy out of recession, the Fed stands ready to up the ante. This amounts to little more than gambling; but instead of using their own accounts, the central bankers are wagering the nation's savings -John Browne/Euro Pacific Capital

Donald Trump Favors “25% Tax” on Chinese Goods; Considering a Run for President – Video 11/4/10

Freedom's Lighthouse » Donald Trump Favors “25% Tax” on Chinese Goods; Considering a Run for President – Video 11/4/10

Trump said he would “tax Chinese products” as a way to level the playing field with them. The Chinese have “manipulated their currency” to gain a competitive edge with the dollar, even though the quality of their product is woefully inadequate. “We don’t have free trade right now,” he said. “China is ripping us like no one has ever ripped us before.”

Trump is right – but he’s also 18 years behind the curve.

Only the Tea Party can save us now – Telegraph Blogs

Arriving back at Heathrow late on Sunday night I felt – as you do on returning to Britain these days – as if I were entering a failed state. It’s not just the Third World shabbiness which is so dispiriting. It’s the knowledge that from its surveillance cameras to its tax regime, from its (mostly) EU-inspired regulations to its whole attitude to the role of government, Britain is a country which has forgotten what it means to be free.
God how I wish I were American right now. In the US they may not have the Cairngorms, the River Wye, cream teas, University Challenge, Cotswold villages or decent curries. But they do still understand the principles of “don’t tread on me” and “live free or die.”

Isaiah 29:13-14

The Lord says: "These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is made up only of rules taught by men. Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish, the intelligence of the intelligent will vanish."
